A video and a favourite song

As I'm sorting out my holiday pictures, I wanted to share somthing with you:

When I was little, a song called "Levende lys" was one of my very favourite songs. My granmother had it on a cassette by Hanne Krogh, which is one of our most known and loved folk artists. I only remember singing the very last chorus, and I think I mostly loved it because it reminded me of my gran.

Now, as a young child I didn't much know or understand what the song was about. In hindsight one can easily see that as the song was written around 1980, it clearly refers to the cold war and the years after World War 2.

To a certain degree the song might still be relevant today. Anyway, here is the video I made, if you care to check it out:

(The song was written by one of all greatest revue artists of all times, and featured in his varity show by the same name. The original version can be found here: https://youtu.be/ykPI4p8fQYA )

Another small decoupage project

Well, I had more decoupaage varnish left, I had more napkins and I had a couple of these boring and ordinary flower pots, so what to do?

Have to say, applying the napkin without crinkles is pretty hard, but overall I'm pretty happy with the result. I am definitely snazzing up more flowerpots this way. This one I'm buying a rose plant for tomorrow and my mother will get it as a birthday present.

PS! This flower pot is not finished off for outdoor usage. For that you would need a stronger varnish meant for boats and things like that apparently.

From IKEA to shabby chic part 2: Decoupaging

So for the longest time I've been wanting another small table for my living room. It started last autumn when I spotted this table/dresser at my local Nille store.

I just really liked the little drawer and the baskets underneath, But as faith would have it, by the time I finally made up my mind to get it, the table was actually sold out. And the store had no idea when it would be back in stock, if ever.

It was time to get creative, because now the idea of getting a table was fixed in my mind. But what to get instead? I contemplated getting this from Jysk, but in the end decided that it was too much like a drawer and not fitting enough for a living room:

I've been going to IKEA several times over the summer looking at some of their smaller tables/nightstands. Particularly this Hemnes nightstand:

The only problem was.... it's just too IKEA. Probably a strange opinion coming from someone who pretty much only has IKEA in the house but this time I didn't want just some furniture you could find in every other home in this country. I wanted something a bit more special. And then I came across it: Decoupaging!

The inspiration I used for my project was this video here; https://youtu.be/8HrHrUmtqyk

After assembling the table, the first thing I did was to replace the knob with a fancy, crystal one from Kremmerhuset.

I got several different kinds of napkins which I showed you in my previous post and then I got to work.

I have to say, the method is really very very easy. All you have to bear in mind is that you lay out your pattern before you start applying glue, and you have to be careful when smoothing the napkins down so it doesn't rip. And voilà!

I have to say, I'm very pleased with the result. Like I said, it's a simple and affordable way to pimp ut an old and tired (or in my case a spanking new IKEA) furniture.

Now what to place on top of the masterpiece.... for now this will have to do.

I definitely see myself decoupaging more stuff in the future! Am corrently glancing at a pair of boring beige and brown flower pots as we speak...!
